Gift of Love

There is no time like now
The present to present our presence
A presence of love and Yule tide cheer
Where none of us live in fear
We all embrace our fellow man
Not bolster a nationality or skin tan
Accept one and all as human
Knowing we are flawed, we are men
Just beings in search of love
A quest ordained from those above
The time is now people, join this happy holiday
Spread not hate, but love each and every way
Seek not the need for violent acts
None are justified, and that’s just facts
Give the gift of love, that would be nice
It’s free of charge, filling, and melts the ice
The ice around a malice filled heart
It may not fix the world, but it’s a good start.

Love one another people, happy holidays

When Tis’ the Season?

image

Happy holidays, whether it be Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or just the Winter Solstice that you celebrate. I hope it’s a great time of year for you.

For me personally I celebrate Christmas and a bunch of Birthdays during the month of December. During my childhood this was the most awesome tome of year. My relatives all got together and we played games, ate good food, and reveled in our togetherness. But as I grew older things have changed. We still celebrate the birthdays bit the world around me has lost its Christmas glow. We’re all in a dense blizzard with no Rudolph to guide us.

Its mid-December as I write this and I didn’t get my first “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays” until the 10th. Businesses put up decorations and started their holiday sales, but the people seemed to have lost their spirit. Not even speaking from a religious standpoint. The spirit of Christmas is on its deathbed if not dead already. Even finding the old-school animated Christmas specials such as Frosty, Jack Frost, and Rudolph are all hard to find now. Granted we could find those on the web and amazon, it still would be nice to see these specials on the air.

image

The Christmas spirit has been sapped from the youth. A lot of kids don’t even know the names of Santa’s reindeer anymore. The only Frosty they know is $.99 at Wendy’s, and they are only concerned with getting the best toys and name brands. Now I know kids want toys, and that’s all fine and dandy. Its the adults that make it their mission to out do everyone by buying the most and flaunting it in the face of others. This behavior gets embedded in the minds of children and that’s their only concern. They now must show of their shiny new toys, and clown those who don’t have the same.

All material things aside, this world has honestly gone ape shit crazy. I don’t know if it’s because we as a species are losing our humanity in exchange for primal rage or if social media has made our madness more accessible to the world. Either way, no matter what your faith is, we could use a bit more religion in our lives. As a Christian aside from Easter this is like our Super bowl for faith. We use this time to come together and celebrate the time our God gave us his only Son who would later die for us and forgive us all our sins. It’s the greatest birthday celebration in our recorded history, yet all we see now is the steady increase in violence and danger in the world. A time where we are to celebrate the messiah of peace and love is filled with people feuding over material items. People trampling each other for black Friday sales. Stealing from each other just to sell the item to someone else no willing to work hard to earn enough to buy it legitimately. A time to honor a being that gave his life for all who have been born and yet to be born, yet we can’t even give our time to volunteer somewhere to help those less fortunate. Happy holidays right? Tis’ the season right? But we forgot the reason. Even if your aren’t a Christian, it’s a chance to spread togetherness amongst the human race. A chance to give to someone because it’s a nice thing to do, not to flaunt your socioeconomic status. A time not to expect someone to bend over backwards to give you something. Go out and love one another. Give a hug or a listening ear to someone. Order Rudolph the red noses reindeer off Amazon and sit down with your kids and teach them the names of the reindeer. This is a season of love and giving, not riots and over consumerism. Reclaim the Christmas spirit! Stores and corporations don’t control our hearts unless you let them. Love does not equal money spent. Gifts don’t fill voids between people. We as a people need to make Christmas a revered holiday again by putting meaning back into it.

Peace and love to all who read, happy holidays to those who celebrate this time of year, and good blessings even to those who don’t celebrate,

Riot!

There was no indictment
Now we must seek enlightenment/
The fact that justice wasn’t served is grotesque/
So yes, you should protest!/
Revel in your unrelenting rage!/
But let positive change take center stage/
Let’s educate and vote, not burn Walgreens/
That’s destroying people’s livelihoods, ending their means/
Change the world with your voice/
This should be the obvious choice/
The riots give the corrupt just cause/
Now they’ll feel like they can choke, just cause/
Don’t fuel their need to follow you for no reason/
A self mandate to execute you for their meaning of treason/
With more senseless destruction how can we tell who is right?/
Education, and positive action will take away their might!/
A loud, destructive riot, is a quiet meek voice./
Grow louder by joint offices and influence the choice./
Become law enforcement, engage in things political/
Stop letting life make you invisible./
Don’t give those boys a worthless death/
Work for change with your dying breath/
It is time for a regime change/
It’s not impossible, with work It’s in range/

Work hard for change, rioting is pointless. It only harms the community you wish to represent. Change your world, don’t destroy it.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Wronged Objects.”

Oh mister towel rack I’m sorry. I’ve done you so wrong. Time and time again I’ve used you for everything but holding up decorative towels. Now I’ve unhinged you from the wall. Do I even attempt to repair you? No. Super glue? No. Crazy Glue? Not a chance. I’ve wronged you Towel rack, because I’d rather use you to lift myself up or catch me when I fall when I step out onto the slippery floor after a shower than put a towel on you.

Founder’s Day

alpha-phi-alpha-tu-kwon-thomas

Happy Founder’s day to my Fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha Inc.!

Founded by Henry Arthur Callis, Eugene Kinckle Jones, Charles Henry Chapman, Vertner Woodson Tandy, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, and Robert Harold Ogle on December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha became the first African American Greek lettered organization. From this point on they adorned themselves with intelligence, integrity, tenacity, and a bit of black and old gold then decided to never stop making progress. This great organization that’s been around for over 100 years has been a positive presence in our communities doing everything from cleaning, raising money and donating food, to helping people get registered to vote.

The Fraternity initially served as a study and support group for minority students who faced racial prejudice, both educationally and socially, at Cornell. The Jewel founders and early leaders of the Fraternity succeeded in laying a firm foundation for Alpha Phi Alpha’s principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity.

Alpha Phi Alpha chapters were established at other colleges and universities, many of them historically black institutions, soon after the    founding at Cornell. The first Alumni Chapter was established in 1911. While continuing to stress academic excellence among its members, Alpha also recognized the need to help correct the educational, economic, political, and social injustices faced by African-Americans.  Alpha Phi Alpha has long stood at the forefront of the African-American community’s fight for civil rights through leaders such as: W.E.B. DuBois, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, William Gray, Paul Robeson, and many others. True to its form as the “first of firsts,” Alpha Phi Alpha has been interracial since 1945.

With the world being so dangerous right now for our young people, African Americans in particular, the guidance and assistance of the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha is needed more than ever. They are working hard and will continue to show rioters the light of voting for change in your community and educating our young men. Guiding them from the dangerous path to a better place in life. Work is never done, but Alphas don’t fear the challenge of helping their community. We have to help to make the world safer for us all. Rioting and looting won’t save our precious lost one’s, but voting and education can save so many more. Honor our lost ones by making sure the same thing doesn’t happen ever again.

First of all, servants of all, we will transcend all!

Happy Founder’s Day Bruhs,

The Force Awakens

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens Offici…: http://youtu.be/OMOVFvcNfvE

image

As the world knows the first trailer for Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens was released last week and I think I along with many had a nerdgasm. As a kid I was a Star Wars fan ever since my dad took me to the theater to see Episode 4. It was one of the anniversary re-release theater nights. I was so enthralled in the universe that George Lucas created. I got a lightsaber, coloring books, an x-wing, and every movie on VHS. I even started to dive into the extended universe.

Being a writer, even from an early age, I took it upon my self to rewrite the first trilogy. A foolish pride filled task that I took upon myself at the tender age of eight. My story was decidedly different. Vader Didn’t return to the light, although he did kill the Emperor. He turned Luke to the Dark Side and they went on to conquer more of the Galaxy. It took the combined efforts of Han, Leia, and their son (didn’t know they had twins when I wrote it) to defeat Luke and return him to the light for a last gigantic showdown against the Sith Lord Vader.

It didn’t happen that way in Lucus’ story, but it was awesome nonetheless. Back to the trailer release, it was amazing! The upgraded special effects were aesthetically pleasing as expected of Lucas Arts. I found the world was up in arms about two things in particular.

1. John Boyega as a storm trooper.
image

2. The Crossgard on the Lightsaber
image

John Boyega was instantly criticized as a casting choice once he was seen in the trooper armor. Why because the masses instantly said he wasn’t a clone trooper, African American, and probably too short. First of all the clone troopers weren’t used anymore after the clone wars. Or did we not remember they were always called storm troopers in the first trilogy? Besides if I researched correctly the aged too quickly minus Boba Fett. Joining the Storm Troopers is basically joining our version of the military. It was a job defending your territories and making money for yourself. So how is it an issue that an African American could be a storm trooper? As long as it wasn’t a nonhuman alien the Empire didn’t care who signed their life away.

Second, the new Lightsaber with the crossgard caused a stir. First it’s red, so that means New Sith Lord. Second it has a crossgard and people instantly had an issue with it saying it looks stupid. Hmmm, let’s go down the line of missing hands shall we. Luke, Anakin, and Dooku all lost their hands in combat. Many people in battle here on earth lost a hand until the convention of the crossgard. Its a Genius idea to have a lightsaber with a guard that could save your hand in the future. That’s all I’m saying.

With those two things aside I can’t wait to see this movie soooooo bad because I’m a fan of the series and I can’t wait to see what happens to my fave childhood characters and their descendents. What about you guys? Are you a Star Wars Fan and eager for this movie?

I already Love You

I haven’t met you yet
But I already love you
there is no question about it
you are the one
the person that for you we’d conquer the sun
my beautiful amazing child
Just sitting here fantasizing about you is wild
I guess I should say it’s more Prophetic
because you are a guaranteed part of my life
a gift to me and my wife
Will you take after me
will you be gorgeous like her?
Brown eyes? Black Hair?
As long as you’re here I don’t care
you are my child
my love
a love so true

You haven’t even met mommy and daddy yet, but we love you
