To Be Human Is To Be Powerless

To be human is to be powerless. To live is to be fragile. So to make up for our weakness we ascertain power through knowledge and innovation. Innovation that leads to “technology”. Whether it was the wheel or contacts that detect drop in blood glucose levels, we revel in our technology because it makes us feel powerful.

“Humanity has grown immensely powerful with their advancements in knowledge and technology. We can prolong life and live better, but we will never prevent death. Only delay it. We are growing in power yes, but we are but fledgling trees standing in the path of the Hurricane that is God. We know not of true power but we fantasize about it.”

I say that because now matter how powerful we make ourselves We won’t stop the inevitability of death. It’s the common denominator amongst us mortal beings, and when we are reminded of that fact I hate it so much. It’s that reminder that makes you feel so helplessly powerless in life no matter the knowledge and power you posses.

A reminder came for me today at my job. This week there has just been an abnormal rise in the humane euthanasia rate so all of my co-workers were feeling their mortality. None more so than the Veterinarians I’m sure. But today a patient with a terminal condition came for a routine check up and was exhibiting signs of distress. With this job you see this day in and day out, and are trained to know this could improve for a while, or go downhill quickly. I KNOW that going in to the Vet Clinic everyday. But seeing this pet struggle just to find comfort and then finally getting comfortable softened my exterior long enough to be reminded we are only humans with limited control. Once the patient started to settle the clients were ready to check out, but in a matter of minutes their conditioned crashed and we were rushing to save its life. It was seconds, but felt like an eternity, and eventually the pet passed away in my arms. As a human you come face To face with your own mortality when you see the life leave another beings eyes. It hurt me to be powerless in stopping that pets passing. At the same time I knew it was better that way instead prolonging their suffering. Humans make the call for Humane Euthanasia all the time, and we have been all week it seems but this time it was God who took over the situation.

It was a reminder that at any given moment things could change, and our power is rendered useless in the face of Destiny. We are Human, a fleeting fragile thing that try to to dominate this Earth. It’s our nature to live and obtain as much power as we can so we do. We strengthen our fragility to its peak, more so with each passing generation. Why? Because we must continue to improve. To stop would mean to cease to exist, and we humans no matter how many times we are reminded we aren’t always in charge won’t stop searching for power.

To be human is to be powerless. To live is to be fragile. To have a finite mortality means defying it at every turn until the end. That is our destiny.

But that’s just my two cents on the world around me

Fifty Shades Of Grey trailer release: A Let Down

As the link above you will show you, the 50 Shades of Grey theatrical trailer was released today for the world to finally see. Fan girls young and old rejoiced the world over at the sight of erotic fiction leading man and lady, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steel being portrayed by Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson respectively.

The question is, what is all the hype about now that the trailer has been seen? Also is this film going to live up to the hype and fame that precedes it thanks to the successful novels by E.L. James? In my humble Opinion, no it is not. Now with me being a 25 year old African American male, I am not in the target audience for the novels or the movie so I’m already naturally biased. I’ll be the first to admit I’m pretty much impervious to all the elements that attract people to the series. Two things made me pay attention to it though. First, my beautiful wife is reading them and we like to read novels together. Second, I’m a writer myself so I can appreciate someone using their talents and getting recognized. With that said congrats to E.L. James on your success.

But, her success is the film’s failure if not done correctly. Because of the hype created by the novels, the film’s have a mountain to climb just to stand up on their own pedestal. As all of us do, I have my own vision of Christian Grey in my mind thanks to the description in th novel, and Jamie Dornan isn’t it. This is another Rocky crag on this mountain, because the fans all see him as a different person. It will be hard and pretty much impossible to please everyone with their choice of a leading man. Good luck Dornan, you will need it to successful seduce America Anastasia. Personally I think he needs more masculine features. Dornan’s Grey just seems to soft thus far.

I didn’t leave out the wonderful Ms. Steel played by Johnson. My wife and I have envisioned Ana as a quite beautiful young woman who just doesn’t know how gorgeous she is. A woman who hasn’t acknowledged her beauty that Her inner goddess has long accepted. Johnson captures the hum drum I don’t care about media’s perception of beauty and I don’t know I’m beautiful look, but she looks older than Dornan in some of those scenes. Her acting will have to shine through for me to believe her to be this naive girl that will be enveloped into this world of Hard and Soft limits.

Neither of these leads do it for me, but that is just me. Its my opinion, I still hope it’s a good movie. Its just going to be hard to shine with that much of a wall to climb towards success.

(Oh and this trailer being banned from TV is rubbish, they didn’t show anything worth banning. I hope that is just a silly rumor to make people crave it more.)

B.A.K.

I start this with a newly made acronym, B.A.K.. This lovely gem stands for Bad Ass Kids and was created earlier today when I was at my cousins beautiful wedding.

We arrived promptly at 9:30am for a 10:00am wedding and were shown to our seats and we marveled at the display of amour and generally enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Then enters a badly broken man, and his three kids that clearly were half human, and half hell beast. The broken man was seated next to my wife, brother, sister, and I and his kids decided now was the tome to make as much noise and do the most moving possible. This was the beginning of what was to be a somewhat annoying day.

Once the bridal party began proceeding in and were naturally silenced ourselves they naturally began talking more and raising their voices. And snickering. And asking is that the bride, even though she was the only woman in a white dress wearing a veil and following the young man who had a sign that said “here comes the bride”. Once the ceremony actually started and the preacher started giving a mighty engaging speech the kids were determined to disrupt him by making the most noise and crying. This poor broken father quietly attempted to stop them, but this was a losing battle.

The reception followed and their wrath was augmented by they voracious need to be everywhere at once, and their frustration with the fact that they can’t be. We were seated in the reception hall awaiting the bridal party to be done with their photo shoot so we can have our brunch and fun. But these there mini terrorist who were again seated behind us decided to yell, scream, and randomly hit my chair for the next fourth five minutes. This was the most aggravating thing in the world, but the thing that made it worse is that the father wasn’t trying to discipline the children. The mother was working the room as a wedding photographer and too busy to help. Once the food was uncovered the kids proceeded to run up and thrust their hands into it, and/or take it off the table. The staff all started to tell the kids to stop and escorting them back to their father. These strangers within the community were the ones disciplining these kids.

With all that said, now I can ask my question are the kids really bad, or are the parents bad? The kids don’t really know any better and if their parents are allowing it they can only think that this is the way the world works. Can we really be angry with the babies if the mother and father may as well be nonexistent? Is it really the communitiy’s job to discipline people’s kids or is that a job solely reserved for the parents?

What do you think? Today the world around me showed me that some parents lacked certain things that the community made up for, and it was a sad sad sight.

Who’s job is it to discipline kids, and is it the child’s fault they are bad if they don’t know any better?
Let me know

Love Is War

Love is War

Finding true love is really the easy part/
In truth that’s where it will all start/
I know you thought that war was won/
But grab your weapons, this is where it has begun/
The one you love will now and forever be you greatest ally/
But more often than not will be on the opposing end of your battle cry/
Warriors of amour, launching opinions and firing feelings/
Tearing away your armor like frail onion peelings/
Your heart and soul truly open to your lover/
They know your every thought and plan, how to wound and how to recover/
You will argue fight and fuss/
Stomp around grandstand and cuss/
All necessary parts of love’s war/
Never to be considered a tedious chore/
Because when gunfire rains down from outside/
They’ll be the one to which you’ll confide/
Oh how quickly will they come to arms for you/
At that point you will realize this love is true/
All sides of love are War/
But every crashing wave eventually breaks onto a peaceful shore/
It’s worth it to be in this fight/
So arm up and finish it with all your might!/

Power, Corruption, Cruelty

First, the poem titled Corrupt.

Corrupt
The corrupt create causes of cruelty/
That are heinous hurtful and harmful/
To your serenity, sanctuary, and soul/
But why? Why must they hold this control?/
To the core it is a primal need/
This dark tendencies are a beast ready to feed/
True evil is a man corrupting his seed/
Changing the flower to a parasitic weed/
Using children to spread your wrath/
It’s a disgust unlike anything hell hath/
The destruction of happy homes from the inside out/
The breakage of hearts, letting the love pour out/
An adult with selfish behavior/
Creating the image of a false saviour/
No rhyme or reason why the evil exists/
But said no matter if detained or not, it will persist/
The corrupt create causes of cruelty…….

Now, the discussion about the subject matter at hand based on a personal experience. Power, it has the ability to corrupt. Once a person has it they feel the need to be in complete and utter control of the world around them. When they lose their grip on that power they turn cruel if they aren’t already. It is something that is sad and frightening once it goes that route.

A man using underhanded tricks to maintain his power is already wrong. But a man using his kids as a show of power to destroy a good thing just because he has no power over it anymore is just evil. Evil in its purest form to me is the manipulation of children’s innocence to do wrong.

I watched a young child ripped from a happy home that they didn’t want to leave because their sibling was manipulated to believe that someone was doing them wrong. Even though said person has done nothing but sacrifice to ensure their survival and happiness. The younger sibling has been torn between sibling loyalty and finding their own path in life. The older has lost their own identity to their fathers will/need to control all life around him at the cost of everyone’s joy. A heinous act that was a plan that was in the works for months that came to a head like a tactical nuke going off at a dynamite factory. They only reason any of the heartache and pain they went through happened is because that man lost all power, so he exuded cruelty to make everyone around him just as miserable.

I know power doesn’t always corrupt and lead to cruelty, but when it does no one is happy in the end. That’s just my observation of the world around me.

So does power equal cruelty? What’s your opinion.

Lost in Loss

Lost in Loss

To say I’m sorry is a tired song/
To not say anything is just wrong/
God has called another Angel home/
To take a seat near his throne/
We can’t help but to question this/
The pain we feel as our loved ones enter eternal bliss/
My God why/
Why is it that our loved ones die/
I know it’s selfish to ask them to stay/
But my heart would hold less pain that way/
I know it’s all his master plan/
I know my falling tears don’t make me less of a man/
I just have to remember there is no more pain/
Even though the loss drives me insane/
Her soul is one I will always miss/
But I will have to be strong to get through this/

What’s your Super Power

I wrote this a while back, a poem based on my passion for my profession

Superpower

I wake, rise and put on scrubs/
Clock in, set up, and clean out grooming tubs/
We say hi and start to check in/
And now this emotional war can begin/
We wear the hats of receptionist, technician, and doctor/
We work hard, fight emotions and try not to falter/
We take on the love of so many pets/
Then we deal with the public who fuss and fret/
We teach the masses on animal health/
We take the insults of those flaunting wealth/
We fight back the urge to show our wrath/
To those clients who truly psychopaths/
We watch or puppies and kitties grow/
We parade them around and revel in the show/
But we go to war in the battle for their health/
With no armor earning new scars on our self/
Pet, client, tech, doctor, receptionist all earn so much pain/
All for the pets greater gain/
For the many battles won there is a loss/
One’s so great there are tears everywhere from tech to boss/
People think it’s all fun and games/
No one ever thinks of our emotional cuts and pains/
Veterinay medicine is our profession/
Making sure you loved one is healthy is our obsession/
Not everyday is easy is our confession/
But no one has a stronger heart than the ones in our possession/
We never really clock out, we work all hours/
We work in veterinary medicine, what’s your super power?
